Wolfgang Tillmans: Fragile, The GoDown Arts Centre and Circle Art Gallery, Nairobi, Kenya, 12 April – 11 May 2018

Fragile travels to Nairobi from Kinshasa, where it was presented at the Musée d’Art Contemporain et Multimédias earlier this year. In Nairobi, the show takes place across two locations, The GoDown Arts Centre and Circle Art Gallery, and provides a comprehensive overview of the many-faceted and different forms of artistic expression in the work of Wolfgang Tillmans, from large-scale prints to sculptural objects, video projections, and music, to his curatorial work in making the exhibition.

Eczema has been bothering me lately, I wondered if anything went wrong for myself then I started to thinking if there was any reason that I had to face all these stuff.

Lack of bodily functions

Although titled Wolfgang Tillmans: 2017, the show’s starting point is really 2003.

In this context, based on the "The Research on Photographs to convince the audience of visual in the Digital era" subject of study, from two aspects of waiters and audience, the emerging online media impact analysis in the digital age, photos of waiters and issues facing the audience and how to form a picture information dissemination process.

I began to imagine the relationship between monitoring and people that existed in the real world.

Before the camera was invented, people used mirrors to know their looks. After the camera was invented, people began to know the looks of others through portraits.

John Stezaker’s work re-examines the various relationships to the photographic image: as documentation of truth, purveyor of memory, and symbol of modern culture. In his collages, Stezaker appropriates images found in books, magazines, and postcards and uses them as ‘readymades’. Through his elegant juxtapositions, Stezaker adopts the content and contexts of the original images to convey his own witty and poignant meanings.

All of these combinations are unsuccessful cases, and I am trying to create a visual sense of beauty.

SELF-REFLECTION

In the beginning of this project, I was thinking of the relationship between image and reality, and I was always imaging  the theme I wanted to express in my final outcome. I did some research for it and read some articles which relats to this outcome. Then I realized that lots of people had already started to doubt the authenticity of a photo.

Girls are only willing to take selfies after makeup, otherwise their selfies will must be PSed. Even there are numerous APPs which automatically can do the makeup or makes you looks much prettier. These kind of apps are always so popular among the girls.  The ideas of these things are the same,  all bring visual deception to their audience. It means the photos that the audience have seen are faked. For example,  one of my friend looks totally different after make-up, and PS makes her looks even more different. So sometimes if I dont see the profile photo I can not notice it was her. This is my source of inspiration.

During the project, I found that i really need to planning for my project management my time strickly. It means that I really need to finish the works that I set for each day. I think I still need to try more in terms of shooting angle and the differnent background, including the pose of the model that will give my audiences more strong visual impact.
