Raiders of the Lost Elephant

In many instances, it is generally thought of as a good idea to go for a walk. Walking generates opportunities to think creatively. Walking does not require much; physical activity delivers an increased supply involved of oxygen to the whole body leaving the cognitive functions to be curious and enquiring.

This week’s exercise simply involves going for a walk, engaging curiosity to stimulate creative picture making.

Walking from the College, turn down side streets, venture out and note street names, buildings and anything else that catches your eye. Bring back photographs of the social political cultural history of Elephant and Castle. Collate your images and observations on your Workflow pages ready to share with your peers and tutor.

During the walk and over coming weeks reflect upon strategies you employed on your picture taking walk. Note the excitement of looking through a camera, the decisions you employed in framing the image, of chance’s impact on the results. Consider your behaviour with a camera and observe any tendencies you have inherited about the correct way to take a photograph.

Think of the story that photographs might tell.
